Personal:
What has been like going without water? Did you think to abstain from drinking any form of liquid which is water based--anything besides milk? What would it really mean for your life to have no clean water available to you?
Action:
1. Did you think of faucet's differently after placing the sticky notes? Do you think it's possible to always carry an awareness of what others don't have while we indulge in it ourselves? How would our world look different if more people became aware that 1 in 6 people don't have clean water?
2. Did carrying an empty water bottle, and abstaining from drinking water seem unfair or cruel? What do you think it is like for a person who has no clean water to also live with the knowledge that many people elsewhere have plenty of clean water?
3. If you haven't had a chance already watch the water video, you can find it in the quest links below. How did this video impact you? Does it surprise you that clean water can be provided to so many people for so low a price? Before today, how often did you consider clean drinking and bathing water as a privilege? How often have you thanked God for clean water? Take a moment to thank Him in prayer now.
It's only been a couple of hours into this "no water" journey, and already it's been somewhat difficult. I drink a LOT of water every day and always have a water bottle on me. Today, I am carrying around the empty bottle. It's clunky, getting in the way, and when I think of it, I immediately have the image dirty water in my mind. The video's images are carrying me through this journey today. I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters in central Africa who do not have this luxury every day.
ReplyDeleteI've also found it is easy to forget how much water we use. I couldn't have my coffee today. I'm hungrier. I'm dryer. It's a struggle, but it's such a small, insignificant struggle compared to what so many suffer every day.
I would like to challenge everyone to use today as an opportunity not only to pray, but to become an advocate. Post the video on facebook. Mention some facts about dirty water in your status. It sounds so silly, but people just don't KNOW how many go without clean water. People need to hear it and see it for themselves. You never know who God will be able to reach through something as simple as letting someone know what is really going on in his world.
For some reason, our cold water was not working last night and all day today, so whether we liked it or not, Jessica and I did not get showers and our brita water filter was of little use with hot water...
ReplyDeleteGoing without water sounds like a horror I would never want to face. I chickened out and drank water today, but I thought about it a lot and felt its effects.
all I drink IS water. I have never had coffee, tea, soda, alcohol, etc. . .I live off of chocolate milk and water. I want my church to build a well somewhere in another country. That is just such a loving thing to do.
